Mount Pearl man facing attempted murder, assault charges following alleged stabbing

A Mount Pearl man is facing an attempted murder charge and another man has serious injuries following a violent incident at a home on Thursday night.

A Mount Pearl man is facing an attempted murder charge and another man has serious injuries following a violent incident at a home on Michener Avenue Thursday night.

Colin Gerard English, 49, appeared before Judge Phyllis Harris on Friday morning in provincial court, and was remanded into custody until a bail hearing on July 11.

The victim is a 72-year-old male who is known to the accused.

Police officers responded just before 10 p.m. NT and provided first aid to the man for "serious injuries consistent with a stabbing," according to a news release from the RNC.

The older man remains in hospital.

English faces charges of attempted murder, aggravated assault, assault with a weapon, robbery and unlawful possession of a weapon related to the Thursday incident.

Court documents also reveal that English is alleged to have previously assaulted the 72-year-old man with a weapon — and damaged his property — between November 2024 and late February 2025.

English wore a blue sweatshirt and sweat pants, and had his hands cuffed behind his back during Friday's court appearance. He did not make any statements.
