Cormorant airlifts crew member to hospital in St. John's

A crewman was airlifted from athePortuguese trawler Santa Isabel to the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's Wednesday night.

The military dispatched a Cormorant helicopter to airlift a foreign fisherman to hospital in St. John's Wednesday night.

The Portuguese trawler Santa Isabel called for help around 7:30 p.m. Newfoundland time.

A rescue helicopter from 103 Search and Rescue Squadron in Gander retrieved the crewman from the vessel, which was about 500 kilometres south of St. John's.

The crewman was taken to the Health Sciences Centre for treatment.

There's no word on the patient's condition.
