Pedestrian seriously injured in ATV crash, police believe alcohol a factor

The 16-year-old driver and a passenger on the ATV sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the Boxing Day incident.
Bay St. George RCMP say the 16-year-old driver of the ATV will appear in court in February.

Bay St. George RCMP were called to an all-terrain vehicle crash in Piccadilly Saturday morning that left a pedestrian with serious injuries.

Police were called to the Main Road area around 3:30 a.m. on Boxing Day.

When they arrived at the scene, they found the 20-year-old male pedestrian from Piccadilly was seriously injured.

He was taken to hospital in Stephenville and later transferred to the Health Sciences Centre in St. John's.

Meanwhile, the 16-year-old ATV driver was arrested at the scene for dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing bodily harm.

The teen, from Degrau, was taken to hospital and treated for non-life threatening injuries.

RCMP said a passenger on the ATV was also treated for non-life threatening injuries.

The teen driver was released on an undertaking to appear in court in early February.

According to police, alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash.

The investigation is ongoing and police are asking anyone with information to contact the Bay St. George RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
