Royal Newfoundland Constabulary officers have arrested a suspect in a shooting that occurred Friday evening in downtown St. John's, near Brazil Street.

Around 10:00 p.m. on May 25, officers on patrol saw the suspect downtown St. John's and arrested him.

The 43 year old male is now being held  in the St. John's City Lockup, for court.

The matter is still under investigation.

Officers say they were on a routine patrol when they heard gunshots in downtown St. John's, Friday evening.

That's according to RNC communications officer Cst. James Cadigan. He said it happened Friday evening and police were quickly waved down by a member of the public.

When they arrived at the scene officers determined that multiple gunshots had been fired at a vehicle in a parking lot outside of an apartment building.

Multiple police cars and a forensics vehicle remained on the scene throughout the evening. Shell casings surrounded a truck with shattered windows.

There were no injuries reported, and Cadigan says it is believed to be a targeted event.
