Inquest into police shooting death to be held next fall: Nunavut coroner
Ottawa Police finish external investigation into Felix Taqqaugaq's 2012 death in Igloolik
Nunavut's coroner says she hopes to schedule an inquest into the death of a man shot by the RCMP in Igloolik in 2012, for fall 2016.
Felix Taqqaugaq, 29, later died from his injuries.
An RCMP statement at the time said officers went to a man's home at around 8 p.m. to check on his well-being. Police say an adult male advanced towards officers wielding a weapon and uttering threats before he was shot by an officer. One officer was injured in the incident, sustaining non-life threatening injuries.
Ottawa police were tasked with conducting an external investigation into the death, which has been completed.
Padma Suramala, Nunavut's Chief Coroner, says she has reviewed the external investigation.
Because this is a police-involved death, a coroner's inquest is mandatory.
