A group of missing boaters on Great Slave Lake have been found after running out of fuel.

Earlier this week, four adults and one child were travelling in an 18-foot aluminum boat from Yellowknife to Lutselk'e, N.W.T. Family members reported them overdue on Wednesday around 11 a.m. and a searched was launched.

RCMP say the boat was found Wednesday night near Etthen Island.

RCMP, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association and the military were taking part in the search.

Vessels and personnel with Operation Nunakput, including the Department of Fisheries and Oceans as well as the Canadian Rangers, were diverted from training exercises on Great Slave Lake to help with the search.

In a news release, RCMP reminded boaters to be prepared, carry proper equipment and check weather conditions before heading out.
