Liberal leader Justin Trudeau is also scheduled to visit

NDP leader Tom Mulcair will be visiting Iqaluit on his campaign trail. He'll be in the Nunavut capital on Tuesday and Wednesday.

"We're very excited that Mulcair is coming," says NDP supporter Chris Callahan.

"I feel great," says Jack Anawak, Nunavut's NDP candidate. "I think that it shows that he cares about the North and is very interested in what Northerners have to say."

Mulcair was in Iqaluit last September, where he spoke to Nunavimmiut about the need for a port, high-speed internet and taking action on missing and murdered aboriginal women.

"Leaders have to be accessible to the people that they represent," says Anawak.

Anawak says Mulcair's visit will be different from Stephen Harper's visit to Iqaluit in August because it will be an open door event.

"On Tuesday night there will be a feast at Nakasuk School and all people will be invited," says Anawak. "Anybody who wants to come to the feast will be allowed."

The NDP has said it will be releasing a strategy plan for the North in the near future. It will outline how the party hopes to address many of the key issues in Nunavut.

"I think he'll be unveiling something Wednesday," says Anawak.

The Liberals' Justin Trudeau has also announced he will be visiting Iqaluit during the election campaign. The date for his visit is not yet confirmed.
