Thieves broke into a storage container over the weekend and stole more than $6,000 worth of construction equipment from a Whitehorse glass blowing studio being built on the waterfront.

Luann Johnson is building a glass blowing studio called Lumel Studios on a commercial lot.

"It hits really hard when we are building for the community and then all of our tools were carried off," says Johnson.

"I want those people who stole my tools to sit down on my benches in the glass blowing studio and blow glass with me. I want to talk with them. It sounds sappy, but what could we have given them as a society so that they would never do that in the first place?"

Johnson says many of the tools have sentimental value.

"It's a family tradition that my kids give me tools for Mother's Day," she says.

Johnson says her tools are clearly marked "Lumel Studios."

Construction at the studio is continuing with tools donated by local contractors.
