2 inmates charged in Burnside jail assault

Two inmates at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility have been charged with aggravated assault after another inmate was taken to hospital Sunday night with serious injuries.

Two inmates at the Central Nova Scotia Correctional Facility have been charged with aggravated assault after an attack Sunday sent another inmate to hospital with serious injuries.

Halifax Regional Police said the assault at the jail in Burnside happened just before 9 p.m. The injuries to the 37-year-old victim are not life-threatening, police said.

Two suspects — a 22-year-old New Minas man and a 19-year-old Dartmouth man — remain in custody. They are due in Dartmouth provincial court at a later date.

The two men are also each charged with breaching a court order.
