Nova Scotia RCMP say the search for a child who went missing Thursday afternoon while fishing in Cooks Cove, N.S., was suspended Saturday at 5 p.m. AT.

In a Sunday news release, RCMP said more than 13 agencies have been involved in the search.

"There is no information to suggest that the child got out of the water safely and the extensive search efforts have not resulted in information that would enable searchers to identify a specific search location for the child's remains," it said.

RCMP spokesperson Cindy Bayers said the intent is to resume the search. She said officials are determining the next phase of the search, but was unable to offer a timeline.

She said the search would primarily be by air.

RCMP say the child fell into a river while fishing with a man and another child. The man jumped in the water to rescue the child, but was unsuccessful.

No information has been made public about the child's age or gender.
