Police and other agencies are searching for a youth who is missing after falling into the water while kayaking Thursday at a lake in Nova Scotia’s Pictou County.

Police and other agencies are searching for a youth who is missing after falling into the water while kayaking Thursday at a lake in Nova Scotia's Pictou County, according to RCMP.

An RCMP spokesperson said in an email Friday the search is at Eden Lake, which is about 30 kilometres southeast of New Glasgow. The spokesperson did not give the age of the person.

The spokesperson urged people not to go to the area to allow searchers to do their work.

A media release later Friday said Pictou County District RCMP, fire services and EHS were dispatched on Thursday at 5 p.m. to a report of an incident at Eden Lake.

According to the release, RCMP officers learned that two youths who were known to one another were paddling on the lake in separate kayaks when one of the kayaks overturned.

Fire services, ground search and rescue teams, a Department of Natural Resources helicopter, the Civil Air Search and Rescue Association, RCMP air services and the RCMP underwater recovery team have participated in the search.
