Body of missing fisherman found in Mississippi River

Searchers have found the body of a fisherman who disappeared into the Mississippi River in Appleton, Ont., on the weekend.

34-year-old disappeared under the surface Saturday evening

Searchers have found the body of a fisherman who disappeared into the Mississippi River in Appleton, Ont., on the weekend.

In a news release Monday, Lanark County Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said the 34-year-old man was standing in the water wearing hip waders when he slipped under the surface shortly before 9 p.m. Saturday.

OPP initially reported the man had fallen from a boat.

Police used drones and called in specialized units to aid in the search.

Appleton is a rural riverside village just north of Carleton Place, Ont., and about 50 kilometres southwest of downtown Ottawa.
