Gatineau police say deaths of man, woman appear to be accidental
Two people died from carbon monoxide poisoning on Saturday in Gatineau, Que., according to the local fire department.
A spokesperson said firefighters arrived at a house on boulevard Wildfrid-Lavigne in the city's Aylmer sector shortly after 7 p.m. on Saturday.
They discovered two people who were unresponsive and declared them dead at the scene. In a news release Monday, Gatineau police said the two victims, an 83-year-old woman and a 78-year-old man, were both residents of Gatineau.
In a weekend interview with Radio-Canada, police said the deaths appeared to be an accident and criminal involvement has been ruled out.
A car was running in the garage when officers arrived at the scene, police said.
The scene is about 10 kilometres west of Parliament Hill.
