Canada Day 2025: What's open and closed on P.E.I.?

Tuesday is Canada Day, and that means some stores and services in Prince Edward Island may be closed or operating on reduced hours.

Canada Day is Tuesday, and that means some stores and services in Prince Edward Island may be closed or operating on reduced hours.

It's a good idea to call ahead if you're planning on heading out. 

Here is a partial list of what's open and closed on July 1: 

  • All provincial government offices, including Access P.E.I. locations, are closed.
  • All municipal government offices will be closed.
  • All P.E.I. Public Library branches will be closed.
  • Canada Post will not be picking up or delivering mail.
  • Island Waste Management Corporation will not be collecting waste, compost or recycling. The alternate pickup date is Saturday, July 5.
  • T3 Transit's city buses will operate on a modified schedule Tuesday. All of the company's rural routes will be on their regular weekday schedule. 
  • There are no classes at UPEI or Holland College.  

Grocery and retail

  • Royalty Crossing mall in Charlottetown is open 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. 
  • Confederation Court Mall is closed. 
  • County Fair Mall in Summerside will be closed.
  • All P.E.I. Liquor Control Commission and Cannabis P.E.I. stores will be open regular hours.
  • Walmart in Charlottetown and Summerside are open regular weekday hours, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m.
  • The Atlantic Superstores at 465 University Ave. in Charlottetown is open regular hours, 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. The location at 680 University Ave. is open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Montague's Superstore is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. 
  • Sobeys stores across the Island are open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. 
  • Co-Op and Foodland stores across the Island are open 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., except for the Morell location, which is closed for the day. 
  • Brighton Clover Farm in Charlottetown is open from 9 a.m. until 8 p.m.
  • Kensington Food Basket will be open from 6:30 a.m. until 10 p.m. 
  • Cooper's Red & White in Belfast is open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Panda Mart in Charlottetown is open regular hours, 9 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.  

Pharmacies

All Shoppers Drug Marts will be open regular hours, except for the Confederation Court Mall location, which will be open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Murphy's Pharmacies locations in Morell, Rustico, Stratford Road, Tyne Valley, Wellington, Central Street in Summerside, and East Royalty in Charlottetown are closed for the day. 

The following Murphy's locations are open on reduced hours: 

  • Cornwall is open from noon to 4 p.m.
  • Kensington is open from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m.
  • Stratford's Kinlock Road location and Charlottetown's Queen Street and East Royalty pharmacies are all open from noon to 5 p.m.
  • The Parkdale pharmacy in Charlottetown is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Lawtons Drugs on Water Street in Charlottetown is open 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., while its St. Peters Road pharmacy is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. The Summerside location in the County Fair Mall is open from noon to 5 p.m.
