Man on the run after escaping police custody: Fond Du Lac RCMP

Police say a 39-year-old man was taken into custody on May 2 in relation to a number of charges including assault and resisting arrest, and then escaped on foot early just after midnight on May 4.

Fond Du Lac RCMP is reporting that an adult male escaped their custody early Sunday.

Police say 39-year-old Richard McDonald was taken into custody on May 2 in relation to a number of charges including assault and resisting arrest.

Around 12:30 a.m. on May 4, he fled the Fond Du Lac RCMP Detachment on foot, heading south.

Fond Du Lac is on the northern shore of Lake Athabasca, about 75 kilometres south of the border of the Northwest Territories.

Police describe McDonald as approximately five feet 10 inches tall and 209 pounds. He was last seen wearing a grey shirt and black sweatpants with white lettering. Police are concerned for his well-being given the cold temperatures.

Fond Du Lac RCMP are actively searching for McDonald and advise the public not to approach him. If McDonald is spotted by members of the public, they advise them to call Fond Du Lac RCMP at 310-RCMP (7267).
