Saskatoon police say they made more than 100 arrests during a recent 11-day targeted enforcement surge.

From June 18 to 29, officers from the criminal investigation unit were redeployed to respond with officers on the street.

In a news release, police said 117 arrests led to 182 charges laid against 61 people. They also took people into custody who were wanted on warrants for drugs, weapons or assault.

Supt. Blair Pellerin said he hopes this decreases criminal activity, but also improves people's feelings of safety.

"We're listening to the public,'" Pellerin said in an interview.

"We're going to go out there, we're going to conduct some enforcement. I go back to the priorities of safety … the public needed to be feel some reassurance of safety."

The sweep also netted 19 bladed weapons, eight firearms, seven cans of bear spray, eight blunt or assorted weapons, drugs, ammunition, stolen property and illegal cigarettes, according to the release.
