1 dead after shooting inside Parkdale apartment building: police
Male victim was pronounced dead at the scene
One person is dead after a shooting in the city's west end early Monday, Toronto police say.
Police responded to a call for the sound of gunshots shortly after midnight, Det. Sgt. Jeff Allington said at a news conference Monday afternoon.
Responding officers found a male who had been shot inside an apartment in a building in the area of King Street W. and Jameson Avenue in Parkdale, Allington said. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
Allington said the victim hadn't been identified yet, but was a Black male, likely in his late teens or early 20s, with a slim build and a small Afro.
"We are currently working with investigators and officers from 14 Division to try and identify him and notify next of kin," Allington said, adding an autopsy was scheduled for Tuesday.
Allington said the victim wasn't a resident of the building, but wouldn't provide any information about how or why he was in the building.
Investigators didn't have any information about a suspect or suspects at the time of the news conference.
Allington said "a number of people" were in and out of the building around the time of the murder. He asked anyone who had entered or exited the building between 11:30 p.m. Sunday and 12:30 a.m. Monday to contact police or provide information anonymously to Crime Stoppers.
