Homicide unit investigating after man found dead in downtown Oakville

Halton police are investigating the first homicide in the region since 2023 after a man was found dead in downtown Oakville on Saturday. Officers were called to the scene near Lakeshore Road East and Navy Street around 5:30 p.m., after reports of an adult man found dead in a building.

Halton police are investigating the first homicide in the region since 2023 after a man was found dead in downtown Oakville on Saturday. 

Officers were called to the scene near Lakeshore Road East and Navy Street around 5:30 p.m., after reports of a man found dead in a building, police said in a news release Sunday. 

The man was discovered by someone who knew him, Const. Ryan Anderson said on Saturday night. 

In a news release on Tuesday, police identified the man as 43-year-old Baljeet 'Bally' Toki from Oakville.

There is no suspect information at this time. 

Police declined to provide information on any injuries sustained by the man, but told CBC Toronto on Tuesday the incident has been reclassified from a suspicious death to a homicide.

Anyone with information about the incident or who may have dashcam footage of Lakeshore Road East between 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. is asked to contact police or leave an anonymous tip with Crimestoppers. 

Lakeshore Road East is closed between Navy and Thomas streets and is expected to reopen Sunday morning.
