A man in his 40s is dead after a shooting Monday morning in North York, police said.

The incident happened around 5:20 a.m. at a residence above a business near Weston and Albion roads, Acting Det.-Sgt. Munish Dhoum said at a news conference on Monday. Officers responded to reports that a man had been shot.

He was pronounced dead on scene, police said.

There is no suspect information at this time.

The homicide unit has been notified, police said.

Dhoum said police are looking for information or video footage from anyone who was in the area of the shooting on Sunday night or Monday morning.

He added they also want to speak with witnesses who know people living nearby or are aware of any suspicious activity.

Dhoum said it's too early in the investigation to say whether the shooting was targeted.

"I don't have any information to suggest that there's any concern for public safety," he said.

Anyone with information is asked to contact police or leave an anonymous tip with Crime Stoppers.
