A Toronto police motor squad officer is in hospital with serious but not life threatening injuries after their motorcycle collided with a tractor trailer on Highway 403 in Mississauga on Thursday.

A Toronto police motor squad officer is in hospital with serious injuries after their motorcycle collided with a tractor trailer on Highway 403 in Mississauga on Thursday.

The collision happened around 3:15 p.m., according to the Ontario Provincial Police, while the officer was taking part in a motorcade training.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt, spokesperson for the OPP's highway safety division, said the  officer was taken to a trauma centre with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured and is co-operating with police.

Schmidt said the cause of the collision is still under investigation.

"There's still too many unanswered questions in terms of that actually took place this afternoon just after three o'clock," Schmidt said.

The westbound lanes of Highway 403 at Dundas Street, which were closed for the investigation, were reopened before 10 p.m.
