Driver dead after tanker truck rollover on Highway 401: OPP
Emergency crews on scene to clean up dangerous goods that were on commercial truck
A man is dead after a tanker truck rolled over on Highway 401 in Mississauga on Thursday, Ontario Provincial Police say.
The rollover happened around 10:20 a.m. between Winston Churchill Boulevard and Mississauga Road, OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said in a video posted on X, formerly Twitter.
Schmidt said the commercial tanker truck, which contained dangerous goods, crashed into a concrete wall on Highway 401.
The driver of the truck was pronounced dead at the scene. There were no passengers, he said.
"We are still working on determining the cause of this crash," Schmidt said.
Emergency personnel including clean up crews, hazmat teams and the fire department are all on scene to handle the material, which Schmidt said is a chemical regulated under transportation dangerous goods.
Motorists should expect delays in the area for several hours, Schmidt said. Express lanes are closed in both directions between Winston Churchill and Mississauga as police investigate, while collector lanes remain open.
