In a news release on Thursday police said officers with the target base unit began an investigation on July 7 after spotting a pickup truck bearing fake Ontario licence plates. The vehicle matched the description of a truck reported stolen in Essex in June, police said.

According to the release, the investigation led officers to a residence in the 2200 block of Cadillac Street, where the pickup was located and confirmed to be stolen. On the property, officers also found two additional stolen vehicles and a trailer that had been fraudulently rented using stolen identification.

A search of the recovered vehicles uncovered numerous pieces of stolen personal information, including ID cards, cheques, insurance papers, and other documents linked to multiple individuals, police said.

The investigation is ongoing, police said, and they are asking anyone with information to contact Crime Stoppers.
