Ontario's police oversight agency is investigating a weekend collision involving a Windsor Police cruiser and a cyclist who was sent to hospital.

The incident occurred on Sunday afternoon at the intersection of Glengarry Avenue and Assumption Street, just east of Windsor's downtown core, the province's Special Investigations Unit (SIU) said Monday.

The collision left the 46-year-old male cyclist with "serious, non-life-threatening injuries," the SIU said.

"Preliminary information suggests at about 1:38 p.m. on April 6, 2025, an officer was en route to a call for service," the SIU said in a statement. "At the intersection of Glengarry Avenue and Assumption Street, there was a collision involving the cruiser and a cyclist.

"Three investigators, one forensic investigator and one collision reconstructionist have been assigned to the case."

Windsor police confirmed Monday that the SIU was investigating but referred all other questions to the watchdog agency.

The SIU investigates cases involving officers where serious injury or death has occurred, among other incidents.

The agency urged anyone with information about the case, including videos or photos, to contact them at 1-800-787-8529 or online.
