19-year-old driver dead following single-vehicle crash on Highway 54 in Haldimand County

One person has died following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 54 in Haldimand County, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said.

A person has died following a single-vehicle crash on Highway 54 in Haldimand County, Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) said.

Sgt. Ed Sanchuk said the crash happened at around 12:26 a.m. on Tuesday between Onondaga Townline Road and Harrison Road and claimed the life of the driver, a 19-year-old from Wilsonville, Ont.

"It has been determined that a motor vehicle left the roadway and stuck a guard rail. The vehicle then rolled over coming to rest in the ditch," Sanchuk said in a news release Tuesday afternoon.

According to Sanchuk, Haldimand County OPP, Haldimand County Fire Department and Haldimand County EMS responded to the crash.

"I'm sad to say that the driver of the vehicle suffered serious life-threatening injuries and was pronounced deceased on scene," Sanchuk said Tuesday morning.

Haldimand Road 54 is closed between Onondaga Townline Road and Harrison Road because of the investigation. The road is set to re-open by 4 p.m., OPP said.

"We're asking everybody to please do not go around the road closure signs for everyone's safety," said Sanchuk.
