A London man is facing charges after a nine-year-old girl was sexually assaulted in the city's south end on Sunday, police say.

The girl was riding her bike in the area of Ferndale Avenue and Dulaney Drive just after 8 p.m. Sunday when a man approached her and began speaking with the girl.

The girl's dad was out in the area to bring his daughter inside for the night and saw the man sexually assaulting her. He yelled out and ran toward them, and the man ran away.

Police were called, and the man was found and arrested a short time later in the same area.

The girl didn't sustain any physical injuries, police said.

A 22-year-old London man has been charged with sexual assault of a person under 16 and is scheduled to appear in court on Wednesday.
