An 11-year-old boy died after an ATV rolled over in northwestern Manitoba early Thursday, police say.

RCMP received a report of an off-road vehicle that rolled over on Main Road in Marcel Colomb First Nation, about five kilometres from Highway 391, shortly after 3 a.m. Thursday, a news release said Monday.

Investigators believe a 13-year-old was driving an ATV with an 11-year-old passenger on Main Road when he lost control of the vehicle and it rolled over, police said.

The 11-year-old was pronounced dead at the site of the crash. The 13-year-old was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

The two were not wearing helmets at the time of the crash, and speed's believed to have been a factor.

RCMP continue to investigate.
