A 20-year-old woman has died after a crash at a highway intersection in southwestern Manitoba on Friday morning, RCMP say.

Police were called to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Highway 1 and Highway 83 just outside the town of Virden, Man., around 10:10 a.m. that day, Mounties said in a news release Tuesday.

Investigators believe the car the woman was driving was going south on Highway 83 and trying to cross Highway 1 when it collided with a pickup truck going west on Highway 1, the release said.

The woman was taken to hospital, where she died from her injuries. She was the only person in the car at the time of the crash, RCMP said.

The 74-year-old driver of the pickup truck, who was the only person in that vehicle, was taken to hospital with injuries the police said were not life-threatening.

Virden RCMP continue to investigate the crash, with help from an RCMP traffic analyst, the release said.
