Death of man found injured on Cumberland Avenue was a homicide, police believe
Man, 39, died in hospital after he was found seriously injured on Friday

The death of a man who was found seriously injured in Winnipeg's Central Park area on Friday is being investigated as a homicide, Winnipeg police say.
Winnipeg police were called around 1 a.m. to Cumberland Avenue near Hargrave Street, where officers found an injured man, 39, on the ground.
Officers gave the man emergency medical care, including chest seals, before he was taken in critical condition to hospital, where he died, police said in a news release Friday.
Grant Souter, who lives in a building near where the man was found, told CBC he was awakened by a string of loud bangs at about 1 a.m that he thought were fireworks. However, when his dog didn't panic he realized he was mistaken.
Souter says looked out to the street from his window and heard more bangs.
"There just seemed to be kind of some chaos out there," he said. "I just heard commotion, I didn't see anything."
When he left his building on Friday morning officers had already cordoned off a stretch of Cumberland Avenue and set evidence markers on the ground.
Souter said this was not the first time he's seen police activity in the neighbourhood.
"It's a well known area for for bad things," Souter said. "It's not really a surprise … and that's sad to me."
