Man, 44, attacked with machete, bear spray in Winnipeg park
Attacker approached man from behind, police say
A 44-year-old man was attacked from behind with a machete and bear spray in a Winnipeg park around 3:30 a.m. Tuesday, police say.
The attacker approached the man from behind in St. Johns Park, near St. Johns Avenue and Main Street, in what police said appears to have been an unprovoked assault.
The man had serious injuries but walked to Main Street before collapsing, police said in a news release Wednesday. Emergency services were called and a Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service crew was treating his serious injuries when police arrived.
Paramedics took the man to hospital in unstable condition, where he was later upgraded to stable, police said.
The victim was unable to provide a description of the attacker due to the nature of the attack, police said.
