A man who was reported overdue from a boating trip out of Bloomfield on Newfoundland's Bonavista Peninsula was found dead on a shoreline in nearby Brooklyn, according to the RCMP.

The man was reported overdue to Clarvenville RCMP officers around 8:30 a.m. NT on Sunday.

Police say the man had left Bloomfield the evening before in a small boat without a motor, and conditions were noted to be windy.

Search and rescue resources were in the middle of being deployed when the man's boat was located by locals on a shoreline in Brooklyn, the RCMP said. The man's body was located a short distance away on a beach.

Police say the man was not wearing a life-jacket.

The RCMP is urging boaters to make sure they have life-jackets on board, to monitor weather conditions and to share plans with friends and family before departing on trips.
