Police have charged a 19-year-old man with first-degree murder, and a number of firearms charges, after the killing of a 33-year-old man in St. John's Tuesday night.

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary laid charges after the RCMP arrested Ibrahim Hussein, 19, following a two-day hunt that ended on Newfoundland's southwest coast late Thursday morning.

RCMP Cpl. Jolene Garland told CBC News officers arrested Hussein in Port Aux Basques, N.L., at the Marine Atlantic terminal where he was trying to board the ferry to Nova Scotia.

The officers also arrested a second man who was accompanying him, she said.

The RNC broke the news of Hussein's arrest first in a social media post published just after noon NT, saying Hussein had been arrested and is in police custody.

RNC communications director Danielle Barron said he was arrested at 11:56 a.m.

Police have been looking for the teen since Tuesday night after what they believe was a targeted shooting in the east end of St. John's.

Police found a 33-year-old man outside of a Watson Street home with serious injuries "consistent with gunshot wounds." The man died in hospital.

In the wake of the shooting, police said they were searching for Hussein, and called him armed and dangerous, advising the public not to approach him and report any sightings.

"Further details will be released as they become available," said the RNC statement.

In a news release sent Thursday afternoon, the RNC said Hussein is charged with first-degree murder, possession of a weapon for a dangerous purpose, unauthorized possession of a firearm, possession of a restricted firearm with ammunition, careless use of a firearm and breach of a release order.

Hussein and his alleged co-conspirator are expected to appear for a bail hearing Friday morning in St. John's.
