School bus crashes in Middle Sackville, no students on board
RCMP say the bus driver experienced a medical emergency
A school bus crashed into several parked vehicles and a house on Tuesday afternoon in Middle Sackville, N.S., after the driver had a medical emergency.
RCMP responded to the collision on Executive Drive at approximately 1:40 p.m.
No students were on board, according to Cpl. Guillaume Tremblay.
Tremblay said the male bus driver was taken to hospital by ambulance and he didn't have any information about the man's condition.
Terry Biles, who lives next door to the home that was struck, witnessed the accident and jumped into action.
He said he and another person pulled the driver out of the bus and realized the man was experiencing what they believed to be symptoms of a heart attack.
Biles said they did CPR on him until paramedics arrived.
"I'm a veteran, so I guess that operational mindset kicked in, and I just went into game mode," said Biles at the scene.
A statement from Conseil scolaire acadien provincial said the school bus was serving École du Grand-Portage and was operated by Transco Autobus. It said the driver experienced a medical emergency and is receiving care.
"We do not have any further updates on their condition at this time," the statement said. "We thank the first responders for their quick response."
He said up to four vehicles were struck and there were no other known injuries.
