Driver charged after passenger killed in rollover near Richmond

A woman in her 20s is dead and a 25-year-old man has been charged with impaired driving after a single-vehicle rollover in rural southwest Ottawa.

A woman is dead and a man has been charged with impaired driving after a single-vehicle rollover in rural southwest Ottawa.

Emergency crews responded to the crash at around 3:40 p.m. Friday, according to an Ottawa Police Service news release issued Saturday morning. 

A pickup truck with two people inside was traveling on Garvin Road near Richmond, about 30 kilometres southwest of downtown, when it left the roadway, police said.

The passenger, a woman in her 20s, was pronounced dead at the scene, police said. Ornge air ambulance was initially called but was ultimately not brought in after the woman was declared dead.

The driver, a 25-year-old man, sustained minor injuries. He's now been charged with impaired operation causing death and dangerous driving causing death.

The investigation is ongoing, and police are seeking witnesses or footage of the collision.
