Ridgetown woman dead after car crash near Thamesville, Chatham police say

A 29-year-old woman from Ridgetown is dead following a two-car crash near Thamesville, Ont., police say.

A 29-year-old woman from Ridgetown is dead following a two-car crash near Thamesville, Ont., police say.

The collision happened Thursday morning on Longwoods Road between Wallace Street and Pitt Road, the Chatham-Kent Police Service said in a statement Friday.

Both vehicles each had one occupant, police said. The 29-year-old woman was seriously injured and brought to Four Counties Hospital in nearby Newbury, where she "later succumbed to her injuries."

The other driver, a 29-year-old man from Thamesville, was brought to a hospital in Chatham with minor injuries, police said.

"Due to the severity of the situation, the Traffic Management Unit attended the scene and assumed responsibility for the investigation," police said. "The roadway remained closed for several hours but has since reopened. This investigation is still ongoing."
