Woman critically injured by falling tree in Almonte

A 34-year-old woman was critically injured Tuesday morning when she was struck by a falling tree in Almonte, Ont., according to Ontario Provincial Police.

A 34-year-old woman was critically injured Tuesday morning when she was struck by a falling tree in Almonte, Ont., according to Ontario Provincial Police (OPP). 

The woman was walking near the intersection of Ann and Church streets when the tree fell at 8:21 a.m., police said on social media. She was rushed to hospital in critical condition.

Police are not yet sure why the tree fell, a spokesperson told CBC. 

The investigation is ongoing and part of the road will be partially closed for "several hours," police said.
