A 69-year-old woman has died after being struck by a minivan in Markham on Monday morning, police said.
Officers responded to a pedestrian being struck by a vehicle around 8 a.m. near Markham Road and Elson Street, York Regional Police said.
She was taken to a trauma centre with life-threatening injuries, where she was later pronounced dead, police said.
The driver of the minivan remained on scene, police said in an email to CBC Toronto.
Markham Road is closed from Denison Street to Steeles Avenue E.
The road is expected to be closed throughout Monday, police said.
