Sudbury police have arrested two employees at a downtown store that sold magic mushrooms, also known as  psilocybin.

The employees face drug trafficking charges, and police seized around $16,500 worth of magic mushrooms from the store.

The store, called Shroomyz, opened in downtown Sudbury in November 2024. Around that time police officers met with the store employees, who voluntarily shut down the establishment.

But police were later informed the store reopened at a location across the street in April 2025.

A drug investigation started at that time, which culminated with the execution of a search warrant on July 2.

"We would like to remind our community that selling and possessing psilocybin is still illegal and officers  will continue with enforcement under the CDSA [Controlled Drugs and Substances Act]," the Greater Sudbury Police Service said in a news release.
