Police investigate arson after 2-alarm fire in East York sends 3 to hospital
Toronto Police allege three people set a fire inside the business before fleeing the area
Toronto Police are looking for three people who they say allegedly set fire to a multi-purpose building in East York, sending three people to hospital Wednesday morning for smoke inhalation.
Toronto Fire Services were called to 834 Pape Avenue, south of Mortimer Avenue, just after 5 a.m. for reports of a fire at the two-storey building, which has a business on the main level and residential space above.
Police say the suspects wore dark pants, dark hoodies, and masks on their face, and were carrying red jerry cans. Police allege the individuals broke into the building, set fire to it, and then fled.
Steve Darling, the acting deputy fire chief, spoke to reporters this morning and said the blaze has been contained.
Paramedics say the three adults who were hospitalized were located in a residence above the business. They were taken to hospital and treated for minor smoke inhalation.
