Chatham-Kent police say one of their officers has been suspended after being charged with impaired driving and other offences.

On Wednesday evening, the officer was arrested during a traffic stop on Highway 3 in Leamington, Ont., the police service said in a media release on Friday.

He faces charges of impaired driving, refusing to comply with a demand, dangerous operation of a vehicle and resisting a peace officer.

His licence was suspended for 90 days and his vehicle was impounded for a week.

The officer, a constable who has been with the service for two years, was suspended with pay.

Chatham-Kent police say an internal investigation will be conducted after the criminal proceedings are complete.
