It happened Tuesday night in the downtown apartment buildings where police began stationing themselves 24/7 last year — aiming to reduce crime in an area known for high levels of crime.
Officers responded to an assault shortly after 9 p.m., police said in a news release issued Wednesday.
They found a man suffering from cuts to his head, arm, and leg.
The man was inside an apartment unit when another man attacked him with a metal pipe, police said.
Officers found a suspect leaving the building a short time later and arrested him after he attempted to flee.
A search uncovered a conducted energy weapon, commonly known as a taser, a small quantity of fentanyl and crystal methamphetamine.
The 20-year-old man has been charged with:
-
Assault with a weapon.
-
Assault causing bodily harm.
-
Possession of a prohibited weapon.
-
Carrying a concealed weapon.
-
Possession of a schedule I substance.
-

Police are urging anyone with information about the incident to contact the major crimes unit or Crime Stoppers.
