1 dead, 2 seriously injured after Windsor house fire
It happened on Bruce Avenue between Shepherd Avenue West and Hanna Street West
One person has died, and two others are in hospital with "serious" injuries after a house fire in Windsor.
Crews responded to 1576 Bruce Avenue around 5:30 a.m. Thursday, according to Windsor Fire and Rescue Services spokesperson Mike Coste. That's between Shepherd Avenue West and Hanna Street West.
"When they got here, the crews did search and they found three bodies located in this structure," he said.
"We can confirm at this time, unfortunately, one has passed away."
Coste says the Office of the Fire Marshal is now probing what caused the fire.
"It's early in the investigation. It's going to take two or three days to get it done."
Neighbour Ankit Ghatak says he was awoken by his wife who said she could smell something burning. Then, he could see lights and hear sirens.
The Bruce Avenue resident, who's been living there for six years, says when he came outside he could see lots of smoke billowing from the home's main door — as well as the top windows.
"The firefighters were in the process of getting in the house and then they brought three people out," said Ghatak.
"It was actually kind of a blur for us because it took us a while to even wrap our heads around as to what's going on. It's really disturbing and, you know, distressing that it happened just two doors down."
He says the people who lived in the home were "very fine" neighbours and always very helpful.
