Windsor police have arrested and charged a 36-year-old man in connection with a recent jewelry store robbery in Tecumseh Mall.

On Friday, a suspect wearing a face covering smashed open a display case and fled with roughly $50,000 worth of jewelry, police said.

Then, on Sunday, "a similarly disguised individual" tried to do the same at another jewelry store in the east-end mall, police said. "This time, the suspect fled the scene without obtaining any merchandise."

Investigators identified a 36-year-old as the suspect in both incidents, police said. Officers arrested him on Monday in the 300 block of Parent Avenue in Windsor.

A 36-year-old man is facing more than a half-dozen charges, including robbery with violence, possession of property obtained by crime over $5,000, and breach of probation, according to police.

Police are asking anyone with information about the case to call them at 519-255-6700, ext. 4830, or to reach out to Crime Stoppers anonymously at 519-258-8477 (TIPS) or online.

A spokesperson for Tecumseh Mall previously said stores remain open.

"As per our policy and procedures, we take the safety and security of our shoppers very seriously and will not tolerate any kind or form of violence and/or criminal activity and do everything we can to ensure the continued safety of our patrons," the spokesperson said.
