Windsor police say an arrest has been made after a 46-year-old man, described as a friend of the family, allegedly sexually assaulted a four-year-old boy.

Police received the report on June 25 and launched an investigation. Officers found that the assault allegedly took place while the suspect was alone with the child the previous evening.

"The child's parent noticed significant injuries after the incident, prompting an immediate trip to the hospital and a call to police," Windsor police said in a media release on Friday.

The suspect crossed the border into Michigan before Windsor police could locate him.

On Friday, U.S. Marshals, with the help of the OPP, arrested the man at a home in the Detroit suburb of Royal Oak, Mich.

After he returns to Windsor, he'll face charges of aggravated sexual assault and sexual interference with a person under 16 years of age, police said.

Windsor police are urging anyone with information in this case call the Major Crimes Unit at 519-255-6700, ext. 4830, or CrimeStoppers.
