2nd person dies following head-on collision in Hamilton, say police
10-year-old also died from injuries shortly following crash on July 6
A second person has died following a three-vehicle crash on Trinity Church Road, say Hamilton police.
The collision happened at 9:30 p.m. on July 6 and involved a pickup truck, a Honda Civic and a Ford Explorer. A 10-year-old child was pronounced dead at a hospital soon after.
Another occupant of the Honda Civic died days later from their injuries, said police in a news release Tuesday. Neither victim has been identified.
"Hamilton police extend our continued condolences to all those impacted by this tragic incident," said the statement.
The pickup truck was driving southbound "at a high rate of speed" in the rural south end of the city, and crossed the centre line trying to pass another vehicle, police said. It collided head-on with the car travelling northbound.
The impact propelled the car backward and it hit the Ford Explorer.
Shortly after the collision, police reported two other occupants of the car were injured.
The collision reconstruction unit continues to investigate and is looking for more witnesses.
Anyone with information, or who was at the scene and didn't provide a statement, is asked to contact police or Crime Stoppers.
