A man has died after he was struck while trying to pursue his dog on Highway 10 on Montreal's South Shore, Thursday evening.
The collision occurred around 8:15 p.m. at the height of kilometre 14 in Brossard, Que. The man, who was driving east, had pulled over to the side of the highway when his dog escaped the vehicle, according to provincial police.
"So he tried to pursue him and unfortunately was hit by another car heading west," said Sûreté du Québec (SQ) spokesperson Audrey-Anne Bilodeau.
Both the man and the dog were declared dead at the scene after emergency services arrived.
Bilodeau says the man was in his 30s and was from Laval, Que.
The westbound lane was closed at the height of kilometre 11 until kilometre 22, while a specialized collisions investigator analyzed the scene. The highway was completely reopened around 11:30 p.m.
