RCMP have charged a 22-year-old man from Alberta with forcible confinement and a slew of other firearms-related offences more than a month after an incident in Yellowknife.

Police said they received a report on June 11 that two people had been held against their will in the 5400 block of 52nd Street and were later released.

Two days later police said they raided the home at around 4:30 a.m. and arrested three people there. They also seized a firearm and other evidence.

The 22-year-old suspect, who was among the three arrested, was the subject of a Canada-wide warrant for violating his parole. The following day, June 14, he was sent back to Alberta to finish a federal sentence.

He is now facing 12 more charges: forcible confinement, assault with a weapon, two counts of extortion with a firearm, unauthorized possession of a firearm and 7 other weapons-related charges.

RCMP say he was transported back to Yellowknife and will appear in court in August.
