A 29-year-old motorcyclist has died after a collision with a bus and a vehicle in Etobicoke on Tuesday, Toronto police say.

The collision happened in the intersection of Kipling Avenue and Steeles Avenue W. Police received several calls about a motorcycle collision shortly after 7 p.m.

Acting Insp. Baheer Sarvanandan, spokesperson for the Toronto Police Service, told reporters that the motorcyclist was northbound on Kipling Avenue, heading toward the intersection with Steeles Avenue W., when he got separated from the motorcycle  and ended up underneath a northbound TTC bus in the curb lane.

The motorcycle itself continued into the intersection, colliding with a vehicle headed eastbound.

"Speed was a factor witnessed by a lot of witnesses," Sarvanandan said.

Toronto paramedics, police and firefighters tried to save the life of the motorcyclist at the scene, with paramedics taking the man to hospital in critical condition. He was pronounced dead in hospital.

Next of kin is not notified yet.

Sarvanandan said the death marks the 19th traffic fatality in Toronto this year.

He said there were people on the bus and that the female bus driver is traumatized. She is receiving support from her supervisors, he added.

Police closed the westbound lanes of Steeles Avenue W. and the northbound lanes of Kipling Avenue at Kidron Valley Drive as they investigated.
