A nine-year-old child is recovering after being hit by a vehicle in downtown Windsor, Ont.

The child had serious but non-life-threatening injuries

A nine-year-old child is recovering after being hit by a vehicle in downtown Windsor on Friday evening, according to police.

Police said officers responded to the scene near Wyandotte Street West and Church Street shortly after 6 p.m. ET. The child was attempting to cross the street outside a crosswalk when hit.

Police say the driver remained at the scene. Emergency crews, including paramedics and firefighters, provided treatment before taking the child to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries.

The scene was held for several hours while officers investigated and has since reopened.
