The Windsor Police Service says it has made another breakthrough in its investigation into the theft of more than 1,000 boxes of Crown Royal whisky in May.

Police have arrested two additional suspects in the case, according to a post from the force Wednesday on X.

That brings the total number of individuals charged in the case to eight.

The investigation dates back to the night of May 17, when the suspects stole a semi-tractor trailer loaded with more than 1,000 boxes of Crown Royal from a secured facility in the 3,300 block of Devon Drive, police said.

The trailer was found abandoned the following day in Lakeshore with the load of whiskey missing.

"In my time here, I can't say that I have recalled seeing anything like this before," Const. Bianca Jackson, a spokesperson for the Windsor Police Service, said at the time.

Police previously arrested six other suspects in the case.

A seventh suspect, a 45-year-old man, turned himself in at Windsor police headquarters on July 10, police said.

Officers arrested the eighth suspect, a 42-year-old man, in the 900 block of Reedmere Road on Tuesday.

They are both charged with multiple counts of possession of property obtained by crime, possession of property obtained by crime for trafficking, and conspiracy to commit an indictable offence.

The 45-year-old is also charged with operation of a conveyance while prohibited.

The 42-year-old is also charged with wearing a disguise with intent to commit an indictable offence.

Police say they have recovered 66 boxes of the stolen liquor to date. The rest remains missing.

They are asking anyone with information that might help the investigation to contact their target base unit or Crimestoppers anonymously.
