Police are investigating fatal highway crashes in Newfoundland and in Labrador that killed two men.

A 34-year-old man died following a two-vehicle crash on the Trans-Canada Highway between Gander and Benton early Thursday morning.

In a news release, the RCMP said the car was travelling west on the highway when it struck a tractor trailer travelling in the eastbound lane around 2:30 a.m. NT.

The man was the only person in the car. The RCMP said he was ejected from the vehicle and died at the crash scene. The driver of the tractor trailer sustained minor injuries, police said.

Later in the day, a 46-year-old man driving an SUV died at the scene of a crash with a commercial truck on the Trans-Labrador Highway between Happy Valley-Goose Bay and the Highway 516 junction.

Police received the report at around 6:15 p.m. AT. The truck driver sustained minor injuries.

Both crashes are being investigated, which includes the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
